Multi-Platinum Superstar Nelly to Headline Charity Event During Democratic National Convention for Musicians On Call

RIAA To Produce & Sponsor July 25th Invitation-Only Event At Union Transfer In Philadelphia

WASHINGTON D.C./PHILADELPHIA – Global superstar and multi-Platinum recording artist Nelly will be the headline performing act at the charity benefit for Musicians On Call (MOC), a nonprofit that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities, at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.  The Monday evening benefit is produced and sponsored by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The event will take place the evening of July 25th (Monday) at Union Transfer Philadelphia.

Musicians On Call was founded in 1999 with the mission of bringing live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities ranging from children’s hospitals to adult facilities, VA hospitals and hospices. To date, its volunteers have played for half a million people in 20 cities across the country.  By delivering live, in-room performances to patients undergoing treatment or unable to leave their beds, they add a dose of joy to life in a healthcare facility. MOC supporters over the years include Bruce Springsteen, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Antebellum, Justin Timberlake, Ed Sheeran, Reba, Gavin DeGraw, Darius Rucker, Pharrell, Amos Lee, Nick Jonas, Rachel Platten and many more. The event will help raise critical funds for Musicians On Call to expand its Bedside Performance Program to other cities and facilities.

The exceptionally talented, global superstar Nelly has achieved chart-topping success since releasing his 9X multi-Platinum album debut “Country Grammar” in 2000.  Seven different albums across 15 years have notched 21 million RIAA album certifications, making Nelly one of the most recognized hip hop artists in RIAA album award history.  Additionally, 11 separate Nelly songs have garnered Gold & Platinum awards.  He’s also featured on one of 11 Diamond songs ever, “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line.

DJ Jazzy Jeff is also part of night’s festivities.  Since 1985, the famed DJ has been wowing fans with his flawless turntable skills, innovation production and musical versatility.  DJ Jazzy Jeff has garnered multiple Gold & Platinum certified songs and albums during his career and continues to be one of the most sought-after DJs.

BIO (Biotechnology Innovation Organization) joins the RIAA as the lead sponsor of the charity benefit.

“We are thrilled to be partnering again with our good friends and MOC supporters at the RIAA, and especially to have Nelly headlining this wonderful event,” said Pete Griffin, President of Musicians On Call. “We couldn’t have asked for a better line-up of artists to shine a light on what MOC does and to raise funds for us to continue to spread the healing power of music.”

The event will take place the evening of July 25th (Monday) at the Union Transfer in Philadelphia.  If you are a member of the news media and would like to request media credentials to attend the pre-show red carpet, please contact Jonathan Lamy or Liz Kennedy at jlamy@riaa.com or lkennedy@riaa.com.  Please note: this is an invitation-only event; coverage of the red carpet does not include entry into event.
