The Top Selling Group Once Again Ties Michael Jackson's "Thriller" As RIAA's Highest Certified Album of All Time

Washington, DC - The Recording Industry Association of America announced today the certification of the Eagles' "Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" for U.S. sales of 25 million. The album catches up to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" once again to share the title as the best-selling album of all time. The Eagles previously tied Jackson's multi-platinum record of 24 million in March 1997.

The Eagles' "Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" on Elektra Records, remains a classic rock staple and the best-selling album by a group. The album was released in February 1976 and made its mark immediately by becoming the first album ever to be certified under RIAA's Platinum Award category, which was introduced that same year.

The RIAA also announced today the certification of the Eagles' "Hotel California" for U.S. sales of 15 million.

"The Eagles will continue to do well for a long, long time. They are a band for the ages," commented Jay Berman, RIAA's former Chairman and one of the Eagles' most devoted enthusiasts.

Among RIAA's top certified albums of all time are the Eagles' "Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (25 million); Pink Floyd's "The Wall" (22 million/double-disc); Billy Joel's "Greatest Hits Volume I & II" (18 million/double-disc); Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" (18 million) and Led Zeppelin's "Led Zeppelin IV" (17 million).
