RIAA COMMENT ON HOUSE JUDICIARY CHAIRMAN BOB GOODLATTE

WASHINGTON – Today House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) announced that he would be retiring at the end of his current term in December 2018. Below is a comment from Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) President Mitch Glazier on the announcement.

“We are such tremendous fans of Chairman Bob Goodlatte.  Throughout his 25-year tenure serving the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia culminating with his leadership of the House Judiciary Committee, he has remained steadfast to his core values and love of the law. His ability to manage complex issues has made him one of the most respected Members of Congress, and we are personally grateful for all he has done to protect the rights of music creators across the country.

“While we are saddened to hear of his retirement, we also echo his sentiment that there is much work left to be done while he serves out his tenure, and we look forward to working with him and the Committee in the upcoming session on meaningful music licensing reform.

“We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Bob and Maryellen as they prepare to start a new and well-deserved chapter.”
