RIAA Names Brendan Daly as Chief Communications Officer

Washington, D.C., August 7, 2019 – The RIAA today announced that it has named Brendan Daly as Chief Communications Officer, effective immediately.

Washington, D.C., August 7, 2019 – The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) today announced that it has named Brendan Daly as Chief Communications Officer, effective immediately.

Daly, who previously served as chief spokesman for U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative among other senior strategic communications positions, will report to RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch Glazier.

“Brendan brings a wealth of substantive and management experience to the RIAA,” said Glazier. “He will collaborate with our leadership and member companies to shape and guide our public voice, as we advocate for a music ecosystem that works for everyone.”

Daly, who most recently served as communications director for Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), said he was drawn to the RIAA’s strong sense of purpose, its commitment to a sustainably healthy American music community and its leadership through the digital transition.

“I am thrilled to join the RIAA at this exciting time. Our member companies provide exceptional value to the music industry in a time of unprecedented creativity and technological progress,” Daly said. “Music matters and it matters to me. Ever since my first live show – Linda Ronstadt at Merriweather Post Pavilion – music has been a huge part of my life, listening to vinyl in my youth and streaming a wide range of songs today. I can’t wait to get to work with America’s great labels and artists.”

Daly will lead RIAA’s media relations, creative, research & economics, and Gold & Platinum awards executive team. The team works in print, digital and social media, in video, and through the news media to tell the music industry’s stories.

As senior director of communications since 2015 for SCAN, the political advocacy arm of the global nonprofit Save the Children, Daly worked to advocate for more children across the United States to have access to high-quality early childhood education and a strong start in life.

From 2002 to 2011, Daly served as chief spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, leading the communications team during her rise from minority whip to her election as the first female Speaker of the House in 2007 and during her first two terms as Speaker.

He fulfilled the same strategic advisory role for nonprofit and for-profit clients when he was executive vice president for corporate and public affairs at Ogilvy Public Relations. He has also held top communications jobs at the Department of Energy, U.S. Trade Representative and Peace Corps.

A graduate of Duke University, Daly and his wife and two daughters live in the Washington, D.C. area.
