Biden Administration Report Calls Out Websites That Steal From Creative Community Workers

WASHINGTON, DC (January 31, 2023) – The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) today released its annual Notorious Markets Report, which stresses the importance of copyright enforcement in the context of emerging troubling trends in online piracy. This annual report, which enumerates numerous websites that engage in piracy identified by RIAA and other creative community organizations, makes clear that the U.S. government stands with American creative professionals against those that would rob them of their livelihoods and rob our society of some of its greatest cultural and economic contributions.

Mitch Glazier, Chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA), made the following statement:

“This year’s Notorious Markets Report shines a much-needed spotlight on the devastating impact of copyright theft on American creators. The core message of today’s Report is clear: when creative content is stolen, it not only harms the economy and businesses, it hurts real people. Copyright enforcement is necessary to protect livelihoods.

“We thank Ambassador Tai, her team at USTR, and the interagency officials for their work to guard America’s intellectual property. We look forward to continuing our work together to foster a global environment where American creativity can thrive.”
