RIAA Commends Department of Commerce's Look Into Digital Copyright Policy

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s this week released a green paper on Copyright Policy, Creativity, and Innovation in the Digital Economy to “advance discussion on a set of policy issues critical to economic growth.”

We commend the Department of Commerce for a thoughtful and balanced Green Paper that recognizes the importance of copyright to the U.S. economy and culture, and its role in driving innovation. As the Green Paper notes, the digital marketplace is dynamic and fans today have more choices than ever to access music.

Indeed, almost 60% of music industry revenues are now from digital services. We are grateful for the recommendations and the focus on certain policy issues raised in the Green Paper that will help ensure music creators and investors are fairly compensated and their works protected. That should be the guiding principle as we continue this important conversation.
