Welcome back to Capitol Hill Mixtape. In our latest episode, I had the chance to get to know freshman Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen (D-CO-7). This interview was very special to me. We have a lot of fun making these and the stakes are generally low for members of Congress to agree to share a lighthearted conversation about a shared love of Taylor Swift. Even your metalhead host has Taylor on his playlists. 

But Congresswoman Pettersen didn’t shy away from telling us about what really matters to her and how her family’s struggle with addiction and recovery shapes how she pursues causes and policy in public life. Her fearless sincerity struck a chord with us on Team Mixtape and reminded us of why we love these opportunities to get to know members of Congress as human beings.
