RIAA Applauds Hearing on Copyright Office Report and Reaffirms Findings on Section 512
Washington, D.C. (September 30, 2020) – Mitch Glazier, Chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), released the following statement ahead of today’s House Judiciary Committee Hearing titled, Copyright and the Internet in 2020: Reactions to the Copyright Office’s Report on the Efficacy of 17 U.S.C. 512 After Two Decades.
“Earlier this year, the U.S. Copyright Office reported that the DMCA regime has fallen out of balance and become ‘tilted askew’ in favor of big tech platforms. No one benefits from that. Creators, consumers, and digital music services themselves all have a shared stake in a sustainable, healthy digital ecosystem that works for everyone and it’s long past time for tech platforms to step up and help restore the balance Congress originally intended. This is a moment of real opportunity and RIAA stands ready to work on practical, concrete solutions with both the creative community and the technology platforms, including fast growing infringement hotspots like Twitter and Twitch.
“We thank Chairman Nadler, Ranking Member Jordan, and the House Judiciary Committee for convening this vital hearing to explore the lessons contained in the Copyright Office’s landmark Section 512 Report.
